FCPX won't play iTunes song

Question

FCPX won't play iTunes song

I have one song that won't play in my current FCPX project. It was purchased in the ITMS, it plays fine in iTunes & also plays fine in the Music & Sound tab of the FCPX media browser.

When I drop it in the FCPX project it shows no waveforms & makes no sound when that portion of the movie plays.

The same song works perfectly when dropped into an iMovie 9.0.4 project so it doensn't seem to be a corrupt file issue.

All other songs in the FCPX project work fine.

I've tried deleting the song several times from the project, quitting & restarting FCPX but still no sound.

Anyone have any idea for what's causing this or how to fix it?

Is it a copy protected song (file extension .m4p)? Try converting it to a AIFF or WAV format audio file and see if that works better.

That did it!

I'd actually wondered about that & tried some other DRM songs I'd bought in the ITMS & all of those worked great so I rejected that as the problem.

Once I switched the original file i'd bought back in 2003 from the ITMS with a new non DRM copy, it dropped into FCPX & played instantly.

Weird.

It is my first time using FCPX and I'm having the same problem, How do I convert it to AIFF or WAV?

If you purchased from iTunes, and it is DRM protected, it is illegal for you to use it in FCPX. Asking how to convert it to get around DRM is not allowed in these forums. Just FYI.
